Mine is alloy, I know because I broke it, I was adjusting it down a bit and
when I undid the reverse threaded locknut it was really tight, I gave it a
little more pressure and it clicked and swung down towards the ground, the
whole shaft snapped :( but it had plenty of thread left on it so I cleaned it
up on a sanding disc and reasembled it Phew ! It feels fine now, and Id say you
would have to drop the bike b4 it hit the road even tho I adjusted it down a
half an inch or so.

connecting
Currently, if I
put my right foot in a comfortable position, with my heel on the peg,
and
the ball of my foot on the brake, it feels like the brake is coming
on.

I adjusted mine down (no I didnt brake anything !) you losen the locknut
on the brake rod then take the clip off that holds the rod to the pedal,
turn the bracket that contains the second nut to adjuust the pedal height
then put the clip back in and test the fell of it, if its allright
retighten the locknut. easy as that :)
