Paul, that's about where mine exits as well. I did have to bend one piece
on the mounting plate slightly as my lock originally wouldn't work at all.
Unfortunately I can't remember now which piece I "finessed" - sorry...
Did that help any?

BTW, I can still turn the lock, but find it almost impossible to get the
key into the lock with the bags on (and keys on a keyring). Too bad they
didn't move the whole assembly forward another 1"-2"....
