Hello All,

I am a fairly new subscriber to the list. I have posted once before but have
never done the obligatory introductory message. I do so now particularly in
response to Greg Washington's message regarding a first bike. My name is Shon
Trimble, and I live in Sioux Falls, SD. I am 6'2" and weigh 220 lbs. I am 34
years old, divorced, and work as a Systems Programmer/Analyst (If any of that
makes any difference). I had never owned a bike before, either, and had very
little motorcycling experience. I wanted to get a bike that was interesting
(i.e. not another one of the million Hondas on the road) and something that
would fit my anticipated driving style (i.e. somewhat aggressive). A friend of
mine had a Trophy 900, said it was the most comfortable bike he had ever been
on, and suggested that I just sit on the Tornado Red Sprint ST at my local
dealership (Yes, we have Triumph dealers here in South Dakota). Well, as Eric
has commented about the dangers of test driving the ST, the rest is history.
Basically, I just HAD to have it, and it was cheaper than my other alternative,
a Buell. A week later it was safely home in my garage. I even had to have my
Triumph savvy friend pilot it home for me, as I didn't even have a motorcycle
license yet! That was mid-April, and now I have about 3500 miles on the bike.
Twisties are a little hard to come by out here, but I get along. I have done
one long trip (600+ miles) and found the ST to be every bit as comfortable as
my friend said. And fun! Wow! My riding skills have improved dramatically
(although I haven't managed to scrape a peg yet -- I'll probably feint), and
the ST and I are now best friends. No nickname yet, though, as I've noticed
most of you have for your steeds. I have found it to be a marvelous first
bike. My initial intimidation quickly melted away under the power of the ST's
charm. I was really afraid that she would be too large or too powerful, but I
have found her to be quite patient with me. I believe that this bike is
everything all of you have said it is, and that it will continue to grow with
me and fit my needs well into the future. I love it! Greg, if you are a
confident vehicle pilot and like a unique, spirited ride, you've found your
bike. Go for it!

Cheers.
