RE: new lister

Greg, All are good machines, went through a similar dilemma.
I looked at Ducati ST2 & ST4, BMW R1100S & R1100RT, Honda VFR-800 & Trumpy
ST.

OK, Here is my opinion.

Ducati: The ST2 & ST4 is the same machine baring Engine. They have
more sporty ergonomics, I personally found the ST2 to be a bit
gutless, ST4 a very sweet engine. After an hours test ride on
the ST4 had a sore behind and stiff legs.

BMW: The R1100RT is a beautiful comfortable tourer. Sports? - forget
it.
I found the R1100S to be a bit rough and handling felt decidedly
          weird. Hated the indicator switches.

Honda: The VFR was a sweet handling little machine which only had 4
failings
IMHO. Engine felt gutless in comparison to the ST4, R1100S & ST.
It did everything so well it was bland. No hard luggage. Lacked
          Character/Exclusiveness.

Triumph: Liked it so much I bought it. Had the poke of the ST4, The
comfort
of the R1100RT, The all roundness of the VFR. Has heaps of
character and just feels absolutely amazing to ride.

All that said it has had a few minor teething problems. Nothing majorly
serious, more irritating than anything else.
As stated in the first line, all are good bikes, ride all of them and buy
the one that does it for you.

WARNING: Ride the Triumph last. It is highly addictive. ;-))

Later Doug.

Subject: new lister

Hi Guys:
I've been lurking for a week or so. Eric's message to new listers
inspired me to participate.

I'm currently between bikes. I'm looking for a sport touring machine.
Mostly interested in Ducati ST2, BMW R1100S and of course the ST. Had a
Suzuki Bandit 600 for the last three years and liked the riding
position, did all my own maintenance and was totally reliable. Dislikes
were no available hard bags and not a great two up machine, as I enjoy
riding with my wife.

Curious what your thoughts are. I was on the ST2 list for a month or so
lurking. Everyone seemed to like the bike, not many two up riders
though and comfort is very important to us. Also, many had problems
with the bike, mostly minor stuff but aggrevating. BMW is probably out
of my price range so I have not given much attention to it but will if
you think it has merit.

Saw the ST at a dealer I visit on a regular basis who just started
carrying Triumph's a year or so ago. Never gave Triumph much thougt
until I saw the ST which looked comfortable for two up touring but
handled more like my bandit than say a wing which I'm just not ready for
yet.

Any advice on those who had or have a similar dilema would greatly be
appreciated.

Oh, almost forgot, the two dealers I know out here in CT are out of
ST's, say they won't be getting anymore '99's and are not sure when they
will have 2000's. Any thoughts on left overs or next years machines as
far as availability and if it is worth waiting for 2000's?

Many thanks,
Greg
