R1100S vs. Sprint ST

Hey Jeff:

Thanks for your response. So far all we have really done is sit on the
bikes in the showroom. We sat on the Duc ST2 with bags on and thought
it was not bad - probably good with a new saddle.

As far as the ST is concerned I can only say the following. The ST was
a slightly more upright riding position for rider. My wife felt equally
comfortable as on the ST2 however, the Triumph did not have the bags on
so she could not compare the leg room. We had eclipse soft luggage on
our Bandit and when we packed them out it was difficult for her to stay
on the pegs so I do have concern with regard to the luggage.

The BMW looks more aggressive than either the ST or ST2 however, sitting
on it feels similar to the ST2. This bike also did not have the bags on
it.

Many on the Ducati list had mentioned that there are several companies
supplying spacers to raise and push back the bars.

I have always thought the BMW boxer design made sense from a keep the
weight down low and bike off your legs in a fall point of view. I
really liked the more conservative riding position of the R1100RS but it
seems BMW has decided to scrape it for the "S" model. Also, the extra
$3-4000 the BMW costs puts my wife and I in first rate riding gear, top
of the line communication and money left over for our first weekend
getaway if we opt for the Duc or ST with bags.

Sorry, I guess I'm still lookin' for answers. I'm kinda feeling like
waiting till the 2000's come out and taking them all for a ride over the
same strech of road one after the other. Fortunatly, my friends at
Canton Cycle here in CT carry all three lines.

Good luck to you and your wife!

Greg
