Deactivating the alarm

Whilst on the subject of the Datatool alarm: I have just returned from 8
weeks holiday !! without the Sprint :-( Now what annoys me about the
alarm is that it is not possible to deactivate it completely as it
rearms itself automatically. So the bike sat for two months with the
alarm on unneccessarily, and of course when I got back the battery was
flat. So far not a big problem. Switch to service mode, beep beep,
remove the battery. No worries. Rearm the alarm, as the instructions
say (or at least the German version does), and what happens: I have a
lot of annoyed neighbours. Have I missed something or is it not
possible to rearm the alarm after removing the battery and not have it
wake the whole neighbourhood early on a Sunday morning? In the end I
just left it beeping away to itself in service mode for two hours whilst
I recharged the battery, but surely this should not be necessary. Does
anyone out there have any experience with this? Am I doing it wrong,
are the instructions wrong, or do I just have to live with this?
