Been there and done that, too.  Not quite that expensive, though.  Lessee, figure close to $2K, If I had replaced the silencer.  I only took out two panels, no bag, and spared the clip-on.

Been there and done that, too!  Ancient YD-3.  Full-throttle all the time is one you don't do on the ST.  I've never been to full throttle for two reasons: it seems rather excessive; and I can't get it all the way open before it's time to shift.

My Norton Interstate wasn't a good beginner's bike either.  Clumsy at low speeds due to very long wheelbase.  Also enough torque to get you in trouble.  Had much the same HP and torque curves as the ST, but ran out of RPMs a lot sooner.

My GS400 was a nice bike though.  Light, agile, enough HP to get out of it's own way more or less.  No plastic to replace, so the one time I put it down it was cheap.  Flasher, footpeg, clutch lever.  And I left two dimples in the tank from my knees clamping down to stay with it.
