OK, I'm in love!



As most of you know, I started lurking here right after I ordered a 
'00 Sprint RS which, by the way, won't be here until the end of 
January (according to the dealer, about an hour ago).  However, up 
until now, I had not actually ridden any Sprint; I hadn't ridden the 
RS, because it isn't available, and I hadn't ridden the ST, because I 
hadn't gotten over there to test ride it since they got their new 
demo unit in (the dealer was out for a while).

Well, today I went over and spent an hour on the ST.  What a 
machine!  The demo unit only had 100 miles on it when I took it 
out; it has considerably more now. :-)  I did keep it under 5K 
RPMs, as requested by the salesman.  However, it had a real hard 
time staying under that figure; this machine wants to run!  (I know, 
I'm preaching to the choir, but I have to get this out!).  Going up the 
on ramp to the freeway, even keeping it under 5K, it was at 80 
MPH in a heart beat.  The transmission is already feeling smooth, 
despite the salesman saying it's a bit stiff.  The engine does sound 
a little like a diesel tractor while idling, though.

The demo unit was red, so that may have had a little something to 
do with the quickness of the bke. :-)

All I can say is: WOW!  It felt very odd getting back on my 
Nighthawk to return to work...  The Nighthawk felt almost toy-like, 
with a definite lack of horsepower.  I guess having a handful of bike 
with twice the horsepower you are used to will do that to you.

Of course, this may actually have been a big mistake.  Now the 
remaining weeks until my new scooter arrives are going to be very 
hard, indeed.  Maybe they'll let me test ride the ST every week or 
so.
