Re: RE: Fairing is melting...

Story

Coming out of a canyon about a mile away from my house. At the light trying
to make right turn. Saw a break in the cars, perfect spot to jump into.
Twisted the wick and there was NO traction! The bike slid out away from me
and fortunately I was able to recover by dropping a foot and letting off the
throttle, but by this time I am in the middle of the right turn with a
couple of cars coming. Man what a kick in the adrenaline glands that was!

165# / No Luggage / 1st Gear / sharp turns / Disfunctional Relationship between the Road and my Tire

Yeah, I have been experiencing the same kind of fun at times....either I loose traction, or put air between the front tire and the ground. I am still learning the bike though...too far forward, and the rear will spin...too far back, and I'll do wheelies. Both are fun in my opinion, but I feel safer doing the wheelie. When the rear breaks loose, I ease off of the throttle, but not much...just enough to keep the rear from spinning uncontrollably faster, countersteer a la Dukes of Hazzard, and let the rear smoothly regain its traction....fun. Other caged motorists, and the law kind of frown on it though! Letting off of the throttle too much will significantly increase the chance of going over high-side when the rear suddenly regains its traction, but keeping the throttle wide open will increase the chance of laying the bike down low-side. I have found some roads out in the country just filled with 15 to 20 mph turns where I play in first gear. I do not purposely break the rear loose, but sometimes the road and my rear tire are not communicating well, and I feel more prepared to handle it after some practice. Everytime I do this, I realize that I am playing with matches but sometimes I just get carried away!
