That useless 10 amp 12VDC socket

I would appreciate some input on this one.  Should I yank the thing out and install the American style cigarette lighter socket, or build up a "pigtail" so I can use the thing, or install an additional American style cigarette lighter (maybe right below it).  I have seen some of these sockets built for four wheelers that have the sprung cap on it to prevent the ingression of water like the one already on the bike.  I wondered what other people are doing about this.
