Richard would say that a good pair of shoes or boots is a necessity when
centerstanding a bike . . . .

I personally go with Ken's method of putting weight on the centerstand
and using it to help me level/steady the bike.  This technique was
taught to me by my dear husband, and works best with shoes on. . . . :-)
