Paul, I agree with you on the "wanting to get to know the bike" train of
thought. 15% discount works out to around $25. If you really don't care
about the experience, then have the dealer do it for that price (I think he
priced it too low myself).

I took the extra time when installing to remove the left grip (instructions
say to cut it off). It's really easy to remove it by placing a small
phillips between the grip and the bar, and then shooting some WD40 up in
there. Twist it a few times and then it will slide right off. That way if
you ever have to uninstall the heated grips you have something to go back to. 

As for the rest of the install, it's pretty straightforward. The cockpit
fairing is removed, to gain access to the electrical connector above the
lights, so that chews up a few minutes (remove shield, mirrors, then
cockpit fairing). Then the only other time consumer is cutting the hole. 

Only special tool required is the cutter
