Fwd: some observations on my st...

Hi Ive had the st just over a week, I got the sports exhaust from new so I
dont know how it compares to the standard one apart from the short test
ride
on the demo.. I have had quite a few sports exhausts before but most were
too loud (even for a rev head like me) in the city I like to be able to
open it up a little without drawing attention to myself too much, and all my
other systems made this impossible ! The cops look at you like you are
trying to emulate Mick Doohan even if youre only pulling 5 grand on the
tacho... the Triumph exhaust is different, it is loud enough to hear the
motor sing but quiet enough not to draw attention to yourself. I have only
done 1000 km so I can only toodle up to 7 grand at the moment but that =
180 kmh and the exhaust seems to open up and sing even louder, can't wait
till I can start giving it a handfull and taking it to redline aswell !!
The bike runs fine so far with no flat spots and no backfiring on
changedown.
I was having trouble blipping the throttle on change downs as there seemed
too much slack in the first part of the throttle from new, I checked out
the throttle at the handlebar end and theres an adjuster there to take out the
slack with a lock nut {same as the clutch has} thes were both just loose
and after adjustment the throttle responce is perfect..
I was lubing the chain on sunday after a ride through the hills and
found I had picked up a slither of rusty steel in the 1000k old rear tyre
:( its
only a tiny leak tho so Im getting it fixed tommorow along with the first
service.
When I picked up the bike the dealer ran over all the aspects of it with
me, and he said the Fuel gauge is mounted in the deepest part of the tank,it
isnt a variable guage so it measures the feul from top to bottom of the
tank at the same rate. the top part of the tank goes all the way to the
headstem
back to the seat, so it naturally hold more fuel than the deep part of the
tank at the rear as this is a much shorter section. so if the tank holds
twenty one litres of fuel, 15 or so of these will be mesured in the first
half of the fuel guage leaving just 6 or so in the deeper part, or the last
half of the fuel guage.and when the fuel light comes on their will be 4
litres left in the tank. I think this is perfectly correct so far on
mine,as I have let the fuel light come on twice and it has taken 16 litres
to fill.
maybe Im lucky with mine or people might not understand the way it really
works...anyway Im getting 290 kms from the 16 litres so far, and thats a
lot of city and country riding mixed together ! with 5 litres left thats
close enough to the 400 ks he said id get out of a tank :)
Im impressed with the brakes on the bike except the amount of travel on the
lever,it has around half an inch of free play even on the maximum
setting,before it starts braking.
I feel when Im two finger braking that I will be squashing my little finger
 with the lever once its
run in and Im really starting to pull up late from 200+ into corners, is
there any way of extending the little rod
that comes out of the master cylinder into the adjustable lever thingy...I
set it inbetween no's on the adjuster
so it isnt actually in any hole and it feels great but I worry that it will
drop back into one of the adjustment
holes whilst im going for it and that wouldnt be pretty!!
I looked at a few Triumphs in the shop and they all seemd to have the same
travel on the front brake lever so it isnt just mine, my mates zxr only has
around half the movement of mine, and thats the way I would like it too :)
OK ive raved enough .. thanx in advance for any replies
sorry about the mesy post but I posted it to the wrong address first ;p
