Rude Dog's problem part II

Jack,

I know that we have talked off list about possible solutions, but I
experienced a similar problem today and wanted to pass it along to the list.

I put on about 150 continuous (no breaks) miles today with no problem (bolt
recall done! - will post in separate message). Anyway toward the end of my
trip, I decided to pick up some deposit envelopes at my bank. Pulled in -
turned off the key - got the envelopes - and got back on the bike. Whole
process took all of 45 seconds. Turned the key - hit the start and got an
incredibly weak sounding turn followed by a 1 second idle at about 800 rpms
and then nothing. Repeated this 3 or 4 times, with still no start. I turned
off the ignition, turned it back on and tried again - still it would turn
over but would not go above 800 rpms and idle on its own. Next, I started
it with a small amount of throttle - which as we know is not the way to
start these bikes - and I could get it to run, but as soon as I removed the
throttle, it would die.

So long story short, I tried my recommendation to you, which was to open
the tank in case of some sort of pressure lock on the fuel system. Popped
the tank, closed it back up, key on - hit the start - voila ! It's alive !
Just like normal - no idle problems - hitting on all cylinders.

So, I still not know what is causing the problem, but at least we have an
easy fix, should anyone encounter the same problem. I will log the problem
with my dealer on Tuesday.
