Hmm, I think Rups had changed the bars perhaps, and definitely the tyres; I did find the same thing when going from a '96 VFR to my old 509 too. I guess it depends on the setup, but 3 of us tried the VFR <-> ST switch and all noticed how light the ST steering was compared to the VFR at almost any speed; 2 of us preferred the ST, one the VFR (not the owner!).

I'd have to agree. I took a friends VFR800 on a track day last year
and I wouldn't describe it as hard work at all. If memory serves it
had Metzlers on it and it positively darted through the twisties. I
didn't have to hang off at all (except for the spectators!). It was
quite a revelation to me how good the VFR actually was on the track.

Hmm, interesting... I certainly countersteered my old VFR all the time! I
wonder if you were experiencing tyre issues rather than a bike problem?
Certainly, my bikes were both fine - although yes, now you mention it, to
drop it in I used to give the bars on the VFR a solid stab just like a
boxer's jab, at which point it dropped in perfectly. The apparently wider
tiller on the ST probably makes it easier...
