Yep, Datatool and their products are pretty crap IMHO.  My '95 Sprint had a Datatool which had armed twice on the previous owner while riding (!).  He asked them how to disable it; they suggested just using the provided jumper connection for this purpose - now how long do you imagine that would take a thief to do?  
Quite a useless bit of kit considering the price.  Perhaps the Veto has improved but from Neil's experience it seems unlikely.  One of the other specialist alarms might be a better investment.
