Ohlins - Mounting thoughts

I don't have my forks back so haven't been able to ride with the Ohlins
yet. But I thought I'd tease you all a little with mounting details:

Overview: It's not difficult but you have to disassemble almost everything.

Details: Ohlins says the tank doesn't have to come off, but it's much much
easier to get the shock in/out if you remove the tank. Do yourself a
favor, run it down to reserve before taking the tank off. Shock bolts
right in no problem. Lining up the linkage is a bit of a pain. By the
way, best not to ask an already crabby girlfriend to help. The hydraulic
preload mounts behind the right-side passenger footpeg. Without the
luggage I think it's supposed to point backwards. With the luggage I had
to mount it pointing straight up. No biggie, it clears the bodywork just
fine. One last thought, you're going to have to loosen, if not remove, the
exhaust so if you're due for a rear tire might as well do it all at once.
The preload and rebound adjusters are easy to get to, the compression
damping adjuster, however, is almost impossible. Looks like the tank will
need to be propped up to adjust compression damping.

Adjustments: Main body preload, hydraulic preload, rebound damping,
compression damping.

Cost: I paid $1017.20 through Circuit One in Oregon City, Oregon. And I
waited 9 weeks for the shock to arrive from Sweden. I wouldn't be
surprised if you could get a better deal elsewhere, but these guys provide
stellar after-the-sale support and are out at every single OMRRA race day.
