Re helmet space
I have noticed that the helmets will only fit in one way, i.e.
with the back of the head towards the back of the panniers,
where there is more room laterally. If you try it the other way
with, say, a full-face Shoei, you can't close the panniers
without breaking them. So try a few different positions, and
never sideways on!
