UPCOMMING MOTORCYCLE EVENTS - ATTENTION ENTHUSIASTS!
Triumph
Many of the various Triumph Motorcycle clubs from RAT have found the roads of
N.W. Arkansas to be phenomenal! We are located in the heart of Sport Touring
& Sportbike Nirvana! Don't tell anyone except fellow motorcycle enthusiasts!
Plan on attending a Triumph RAT / Open House at Motorcycles International
Ltd. in Fayetteville, AR., scheduled for April 7th - 9th. The factory
Triumph Truck will be here with a first class display, demonstrator
motorcycles, and a full line of accessories available for sale. Come see for
yourself the new 2000 models, including the new Triumph TT 600 dubbed "The
Japanese Killer!" Look out all you squids on GSXR's, ZX-6's, F-4's & R-6's,
the "Limeys" are coming by!
Triumph Media Up-Date
See Tom Cruise starring in the action movie MISSION IMPOSSIBLE II coming this
Spring! Rumor has it (from very reliable sources) that this movie will
contain a 13 ½ minute motorcycle chase scene, the "Good Guys" riding Triumph
Speed Triple's & the "Bad Guys" riding Triumph 955i Daytona's! Remember
those old movies "Bullet", "The French Connection", & "Gone in 60 Seconds"?
This is promised to surpass those thrillers in chase scene action!
Additionally, look for women's perfume commercial to run over the holidays
featuring Triumph motorcycles. Check Speedvision this Spring for Triumph
commercials featuring the new motorcycles & the full product range of gear &
accessories. Sir John Bloor, the owner of Triumph in England, is VERY
SERIOUS about retaining Triumph's dominance in the marketplace & on the
racetrack.
Motorcycles International Racing
The 1998 endurance racing team, Apex Power Sports, formally running a Suzuki
GSXR 600, decided to do something a little different for the 1999 Central
Motorcycle Road Racing Association (CMRA) Endurance Series. The team enlisted
the help of their local Triumph Dealer, Motorcycles International Ltd., of
Fayetteville, Arkansas. Soon they purchased a 1998 Triumph Daytona T595 to
campaign in the Unlimited Super Stock Class.
The new Motorcycles International Ltd. Race Team sponsors 3 talented riders -
Paul Mitchell of Fayetteville Arkansas, Steve Nance of Memphis Tennessee, and
Rick Howard of North Richland Hills Texas. The support team consists of
Chief Mechanic Randy Conner, Assistant Norman "Bird" Wren, and Team Manager,
Roy Pearson. Expectations ran high for the 1999 season, with hopes of flying
the British Union Jack high on the podium for Triumph Motorcycles America.
For the first race, all the protagonists lined up for the grid, in order of
registration. Prior to the race, comments such as " a Triumph? You must be
kidding?" & "We thought you guys were SERIOUS RACERS?" whispered through the
paddock. Others LITERALLY LAUGHED OUT LOUD at our team for campaigning a
Triumph Daytona in Unlimited Superstock (USS) Endurance Racing / CMRA. The
established Japanese mounted riders and teams just didn't understand.
Starting 17th on the grid, the laughs soon turned to comments like "WHAT THE
HELL WAS THAT? " as the Triumph Daytona TORQUED PAST EVERYONE on the grid &
into FIRST PLACE at the green flag! WHAT A START! It was an omen of things
to come for the remainder of the season. Luckily for the others, Motorcycles
International Ltd. would be the only other team to campaign a Triumph Daytona
for the remainder of the year.
The next race was at Heartland Park in Topeka Kansas, a track the team had
never visited before. Not knowing what to expect, the event consisted of 5
classes. The team rode their hearts out to their very first victory, 1st
Place In Class, 4th Place Overall. At the awards presentation after the
race, everyone was extremely excited! When they announced that we had won the
Unlimited Stock Class race, someone in the crowd shouted, "what the hell are
you riding?" We ALL responded by yelling, " A TRIUMPH!" It was FANTASTIC!
Immediately afterwards, the team started getting the attention & respect they
deserved because the riders were good, the Triumph was different, and the
team was fast.
The remainder of the season saw the Triumph Daytona on the podium in 1st,
2nd, or 3rd place when the bike finished. The key to endurance racing is
total preparation, consistency, and being prepared for the unexpected. We
did a good job preparing for the season, and only got caught with our pants
down once, which resulted in the only non-podium finish, a 4th place. Overall
season results included: One 1st Place, Three 2nd Places, Three 3rd Places,
and one 4th Place. EIGHT TOP 5 FINISHES OVERALL! Not too bad for a first
year effort! Ultimately, the team finished 2nd In Class (USS) Unlimited
Super Stock Championship / CMRA, coming up only 26 points short, finishing in
5th Place in the overall championship out of 121 teams. Triumph Motorcycles
America & the Triumph RAT club is very proud of Team Motorcycles
International Ltd. in the 1999 CMRA season.

2000 model TT 600 in the 600 SuperSport Sprint Class. Based upon our 1999
results, the competition better be prepared!
