Not necessarily. I've retained the salvage on two bikes, and bought
another that someone else had retained salvage on. You don't get the
remains for nowt, you have to pay for them (actually, have it deducted
from the settlement).

The system differs in different countries. For example, in France, if
a bike's a write off, it may not be put back on the road - it must
either be broken for spares or exported.
