I experienced the same difficulties from those "Hellnuts".  However, and I now say duuhh, you can easily remove and these wellnuts by simply pushing them out the OPPOSITE way that they would appear to go out.   For reinstall, moosh the larger diameter portion with your fingers and stick em back in the holes OPPOSITE to what they would appear to go in.
