12,000 mi. tuneup?

Hey Folks,
Pushing 12,000mi. and wondering what your dealers have quoted you for a tune-up?
Mine said $550 to $650! Seems very extreme, but the manager says Sable will be on
the rack for 6 or 7 hours! Does this mean that as long as my bike is in their
shop, I'm paying the employees to walk around it or what??? It couldn't, by any
stretch of the imagination, take that long to perform the operations required.
I'm kinda jaded, as my 6,000 mi. was done by a guy during my trip to Canada.  He
charged me $140 for labor, parts,brakes, and oil were another $100, so he
basically did everything involved with a 12,000 (including digital readouts and
valve shimming) that my dealer is capable of! Yes, he builds Triumph race bikes
for the Seattle area, but besides that, his family is awesome!! I need some input
from the SoCal area. Is Orange County cheaper? How about Ventura?
