Hi Eric,
The cost? Just time spent enjoying. There is no charge, other than the one
you get (as in "I got a charge out of riding!"). Doc is an enthusiast who
likes to promote riding skills. He puts on suspension clinics, also free,
but does ask for donations toward Gary Jaehne's cost of materials for the
suspension clinics. I bought Gary's book also. Similar to Keith Code's
stuff, but with a slightly different perspective.

There are twelve riding clinics a year. The last two had 80 and 70 riders
(approximately), respectively. Also, I was quite pleased to see quite a few
women riders (looked like about 10), some of whom I believe either do some
track riding or race. Here is the schedule for the next few months.

Oct 17, 1999 "Smooth Riding - Awareness and Vision"
Nov 14, 1999 "Cornering Confidence - Road Surfaces"
Dec 12, 1999 "Cornering Confidence - Wet Weather Riding and loose
conditions"

Jan 23, 2000 "Cornering Confidence - Judging Entrance Speed"
Feb 20, 2000 "Cornering Confidence - The Steering Input"
March 12, 2000 "Smooth Riding - Throttle Control"
April 16, 2000 "Cornering Confidence - Lines of Travel (1-2 Turn Method)"
May 21, 2000 "Smooth Riding - Handle bar pressure"
June 25, 2000 "Cornering Confidence - Pivot Steering"
July 16, 2000 "Smooth Riding - Body English-Weight Transfer"

Looks like they ride the same route every month, but it is a good one. It
was beautiful over by the Pacific, the sun was out, people walking along the
beach, but we were busy getting back into the hills. Boy is this a fun place
to ride. I spoke to Steve Andersen, a guy I met at the previous ride. He
told me of an older couple down from Oregon he met on a ride up into
Northern California. They had come down to the southern end of the Sierras,
and had spent 9 days working their way back north, criss-crossing the
Sierras. Sounded pretty awesome. They were both in their late 50's, early
60's, on matching R1's. Apparently his previous R1 was stolen, so he got one
just like his wife's. She teaches an MSF course, he is a racer and even more
skilled. That is just such a great little story, inspiring, no? Just think
how comfortable they could have been on Sprints :-).

On another note: We discovered MOTA on the web, and went by last Saturday
(Berkeley, CA) and bought Jeanne a very nice First Gear Hypertex jacket. She
was thrilled to finally find something that fit, not the shoulders about two
inches too wide or the arms about two inches too long. MOTA sells women's
motorcycle gear exclusively and has a woman owner, and they support a few
female racers. (Thanx for all your input Charla, once Jeanne got to try on
some various women's gear, it made the decision pretty simple).

One of Doc Wong's bikes is a 748 Ducati. Today he posted info on a track day
at Laguna Seca. $195 to ride the track, no instruction. However, you could
probably glean something from other riders. $220 after Oct 31st.
