? like adding a resistor in seris to the wire which drives the speedo needle, thus reducing the voltage....or is it parallel... Ohms Law I think!!?

I'd say the voltage supplied to the speedo is higher than it needs be or by
a constant amount, maybe even a a pre existing DC offset that just taints
the reading a bit.  If so you would think they would have an easy method to
correct it.  maybe a pot. or a CPU tweak.
