I couldn't get the carbon tank protector to sit flush with the pads either.
They weren't even that sticky. So what I did was use industrial outdoor
silicon, (black of course). It's a bit of a task to keep pressure on the
protector, at all corners and in the middle, while also trimming of the
excess silicon so it didn't start sticking to the tank outside the edges of
the protector. BUT I must say, it was worth it. It sits real tight and
there's absolutely no gaps anywhere.
