new RS blue

Well, its only an opinion of course, and I did not see this in daylight, but the new blue on the RS and Tiger is no match for the sovereign blue on the ST; looks like a sort of gunmetal grey; it might look much better in daylight; I hope so!

Otherwise, the factory tour was truely excellent, guided by the ever amusing Rob Brown. We were lucky enough to get Mr Bruno Tagliaferri for the first 20 mins but he gave up after 20 mins of questions from a load of MBA students :)

As we were studying Operations Strategy the day before the assembly line was particularly interesting. Mr Bloor had obviously studied many books on Business; and Bruno T. was happy to outline how they had started by taking the Jap bikes to pieces in 84-85 to get a headstart on the 'learning curve', and the tours they had of Honda and Yamaha factories in Japan. The efficiency and friendliness of the staff at Hinckley is legendary and the work-rate was hard to believe.

If you are ever in the UK make the effort to go - you wont regret it.

We also saw some very interesting new prototypes coming off the engine/crank lines but we were sworn to secrecy! All I can say is watch out for the reports on BikeNET as the editor was on our tour and promised 'first bite' on the news. I will copy them here if I see anything come up.

The new factory should open (phase 1) in October, so that should also be worth a look; it will be interesting to see how much has changed in terms of stock- warehousing - assembly line configuration and paintshop especially.

cheers
Jonathan

Subject: 2000 RS

Well, for any of you out there ready to buy the new RS, I've been told the
colour to get is the new Eclipse Blue (also found on the 2000 Tiger). Is a
multi hue paint scheme similar to roulette green that changes based on the
lighting and the angle that you look at it. Goes from a deep blue to black
to violet. Sounds awesome, but like the roulette green, the pictures don't
do it justice.
