Hi Robb,
You are right, practice is something that should be done in a controlled situation when
working on something new. Once it has been reasonably mastered, integrate it into your
real world driving. Man holes are nothing to be thought lightly of, that's how a buddy
dropped his bike, wet manhole cover middle of a turn. Elevating it to an active activity
has the three fold benefit of increasing your road surface conditions awareness,
preparing you for active avoidance and awareness of following distance. We too often
become complacent in our techniques.
