Neils Manhole cover game

Why does this make me think of Jack Nicholson in "As good as it gets" ? 

     manhole covers. Basically you try to avoid running over them. As they 
     come up in the road or pop out from under a car ahead of you, swerve 
     to avoid them making sure you don't favor one direction or the other.
