Axle removal on an RS

Hello,
  I have decided to remove my front axle, for no other reason than I want
to.  But there is no hex wrench large enough to turn the axle bolt.  It like
a 17mm hex wrench.  And there is nothing in the tool kit that will help.
There is a 12mm, but it is for something else.  What has everyone else done.
One option was to take a 17mm bolt, cut the threads off and weld the bolt to
the end of some bar stock, but I was hoping to have something a little
cooler.
