RE: I'm Cursed --> Neil

Neil,
I would call Triumph USA (are you in the US???) and talk to them. Have
them call your dealer. I doubt they like the idea of a deal doing there own
handy work on this part, like you said it is a safety issue, all though I
rode mine for a week or tow before I got it fixed :(. Triumph USA seemed to
know what part I needed and said to call back if I needed anything further.
I think you defiantly want the replacement part, as the leak is happening
inside the wire conduit and I don't see any way for them to seal that up!!

   Good Luck,

Well you can add me to the list of ST owners with leaky fuel senders.

I had my 'non-functioning from day one' fuel sender replaced a few weeks
ago. I don't calculate my fuel mileage with every tankful, but for the last
2 fillups I thought mileage seemed to be off by about 10mpg (way more than
could be accounted for by varying riding aggressiveness and gas-tank filling
accuracy). I also now notice a stronger odour in my garage -- no puddle on
the floor yet however.

I had a closer look this morning and, sure enough, there was a drop of gas
hanging from the bottom of the alternator, right below where I understand
the fuel sender is located.

What bothers me a bit is that I called the dealer, and spoke to the service
manager about this. He suggested that I drop by this afternoon and that
they might be able to seal it up. When I responded that I thought that
replacement might be the only remedy I got the impression that I was
silently being labeled as a chronic whiner. It seems to me that whatever
they do HAS to be approved by Triumph and that we are actually dealing with
a safety issue here.

In any event I am glad that I subscribe to this list, because otherwise I
probably wouldn't have noticed the problem until MUCH later. Now I'm
wondering if I run the risk of bursting into flames as I ride to the
dealership this afternoon!

Coincidentally today is the first of 2 days of Triumph-sponsored demo rides,
and there is a RAT event (BBQ I understand) that I am invited to. If I go
you can be sure that I will be discussing this situation with the Triumph
rep.
