Mike, this is commonly one of two things.
1) you just lubed your chain and the excess has run down through the
sprocket cover, dripped on the shifter and then hit the floor. Looks like
it is the shifter but is dripping form above.
2) you just tightened your chain - and made it a little too tight. The seal
at the front sprocket is compressed and allows some seeping.
Of course you could have a bad seal at the shifter, but one and two above
are more likely.
