Mike, When chain wax gets hot, it "melts" for lack of a better word. Some
of this residue is thrown off into the front sprocket cover and then leaks
down. This happened to me with Chain Wax - not some other lube. The first
time I noticed it was on the way to the Rallye last year - showed up at a
fuel stop about 400-500 miles into the trip. Slight panic attack - cleaned
it up - watched the oil level - went on to the next stop and it was gone.
Has happened to me one or two other times. Take Robert's advice - clean up
the area and then see if it reappears.
