I think you were lucky - I've seen several friends (with much better skills 
than myself) taken out by wet leaves. Matter of fact, I even totalled a 
325i due to nothing more than a patch of wet leaves in a corner - enough to 
get me off the road and into a roll.

Since then, I always give wet vegetation on the road the respect that it 
deserves.
