Re: pannier/tire warning and track day questions

stock settings, no wonder you scraped the fairing. to really adjust your
suspension, begin with preload.
tank half full, all dressed up, attach a string around the fork tube against
the seal, sit on it with someone holding the bike, then put on the
centerstand and lift the wheel in the air. measure between the seal and the
string. you should get 1.25-1.5 inch. if not then more preload = less travel
and vice-versa. for the rear, take measure from center off wheel to grabrail
or whatever up there. sit and have someone hold and someone measure,
record, then centerstand, lift the wheel and measure same marker. should
have 1-1.25 inch.

next is the rear rebound. travel a loop that has bumps, holes, smooth...,
adjust, take note, try same loop, adjust...

thats the best way to adjust your suspension, it looks complicated but its
real easy, you just need a hand or two to help hold and measure.

next, track days. youre better off removing only the mirrors and taping your
lights. if you take off the fairings, you feel more confident but i f you
fall, you will damage motor parts and stuff. you choose.

take time to spot the bumps an quirks of the track, walk it first even,
before you go at it. try to follow someone who knows the lines, but thats
not to quick for you. get on the gas early but not hard, coming out of
turns. if you miss a downshift and panic a bit, then upshift and look where
you want to go, you will be fine. if not able, then brake hard on tarmac
going straight, let go off the brake in the grass, stand up and use the rear
brake gently.

get back on track and try again !

one last thing, when they announce last session, instead of going, put your
mirrors back on and watch. thats when everybody wants to get a quick lap and
crash.

jimbob, ciao.
