perhaps cheaper, and certainly simpler as far as installation goes.

but you need to trade that off against when and where you'll want
the heat.  having the grips always present on the bike makes the heat
always available -- on cool summer mornings, or in chilly valleys or
on chilly seacoasts, on otherwise warm days.  the gloves require that
you a) brought them along and b) are wearing them, and c) are wearing
the harness or special vest.

in addition, gloves require that you plug them each in before putting
them on -- one more step to add to the jacket/helmet pre-ride drill.
and/or they dangle at the ends of their wires when you remove your
gloves to fill up the tank.

in short -- gloves are warmer, perhaps cheaper, and more portable. 
but grips are way more convenient.
