Gerrit Herbst's new RS

The gearchange on my ST is just beginning to loosen up after 4600 miles.

For the first 2000 miles, up-shifts 1-2, 2-3 & 3-4 required a lot of force
to go in. Down-shifts 4-3, 3-2, 2-1 often didn't go in at the first
attempt. Clutchless up-shifts 3-4, 4-5 & 5-6 invariably produced a false
neutral.

Laments to my dealer were taken with good grace, and the reassurance that
all would come good in the end.

Despite the fact that all of these problems have now disappeared, the box
remains slow and heavy in comparison to some contempories ( e.g a Ducati
996, which seems to change on ESP!).

Anyone know of a sound reason why this should be so? Is it a matter of
design, or quality of engineering?
