The Irish government got around this by renaming the import
duty as 'Vehicle Registration Tax'. Now, no matter where you
import your 1000cc bike from, you pay IR£1400+ to get a
registration number. Free trade? Humbug!
BTW: The Union Jack decals are removed from Triumphs over here
before they leave the distributers, even the ones in their
showrooms.

However, as we're still part of the EC, you can find out which EC
country has the lowest price, buy your bike there and have a nice holidayr
iding it back to the UK :-)
