You always think the UK is a ripoff till you try living abroad.
I lived in Denmark (yes, it IS in the EU) for 15 years. The first and only
Triumph I bought there was my Trophy 1200 in 1988. Approx cost in the UK at
that time, £8000.
Cost there?
A grand 190,000 kroner, equivalent back then to £19-20,000.
Reason? DK was allowed, under the classic derogation rules, to continue
charging vehicle import duties, on the sole grounds that it manufactures no
vehicles itself (so what?).
Result, 180% slapped on, PLUS the usual VAT of no less than 25%.
Not sure the figures add up, but the price is right (or not, as the case may
be).
So don't moan too loud around any Danes you meet.
