Problem with alternators is that they have a very small resdual
magnetic field. Most of the field in the armeture is produced from
the electrical system. So if the electrical system is is sucking
rocks then it will be hard to generate much out of an alternator.

Of course there are exception, my zx9r has a standard generator
with large ceramic or rare earth magnets, so there is a reasonable
chance to create a bit of voltage and current.

Of course YMMV.
