All through my rider training, we were constantly advised to use the 
ignition switch for normal engine off - the killswitch for emergencies.

The reason being that the ignition is a mechanical switch and therefore more 
reliable than the plastic killswitch.

Either method will not harm the bike's circuitry.

BTW I finally received my RAT pack 4 months after purchasing the bike. Yay.
