ST and wind protection

Hello Misha and fellow STer's:
I have been riding a '00 ST here in Philadelphia for the past several months. I
purchased the Triumph made taller windscreen for about $150 and replaced the stock
screen after riding one month (December). The taller screen makes a big change in how
and where the wind goes. The wind no longer hits me in the face, but is diverted over my
helmet. The screen is quiet and does not create buffetting or adversely affect the
excellent handling of the ST.
Another reason to seriously consider the purchase of an ST versus the VFR is
because of the outstanding quality of the Triumph made panniers. They are waterproof,
roomy, colour matched, and connect/disconnect quickly and securely. I never had such
convenience before I owned a Triumph. I'm spoiled!
As for reliability, I wouldn't worry. I have owned three Hinckley Triumphs and
they have performed flawlessly over the past several years. I have ridden in all weather
conditions and in all seasons. All components (except the fuel gauges/senders) made by
the "Factory" are of very quality and have high fit and finish.
Tyres are a subjective matter. Just make sure you have them well cleaned of the
mould release agent and scratch & scrub 'em well to make sure that no oil or grease
remains on the tread.
The gearbox is famous for its excessive tightness when new. Over the break-in
period, it begins to get smoother and amoother. Neutral becomes easier and easier to
locate. Shifting is a joy now that I'm out of the first "one thousand miles".
The ST is a well designed and thought out vehicle. We're here on this List/Digest
because we're crazy about the bike!
