Actually, the kind of RTV I am speaking of is sold and marketed as a
gasket and/or sealant compound. Pematex is the brand I am most
familiar with, and they have a couple of RTV compounds that would work
well:

Is good to as high as 650ºF and

Is good to 500ºF.

You must be thinking of RTV caulk - a very poor substitute for the
vastly different formulations sold by Permatex.
