When cruising (not racing or tearing up the road) I typically shift in the 4000 rpm range. The big deal is if you want to short shift your bike (and you can on this one - it's got enough torque) just make sure that you don't come down any lower than 3000-3500 rpm (3500 is better) when you engage the higher gear. If you are accelerating with any intent then you should raise your shift point accordingly.
But hey, what do I know, my second bike is a HOG and that baby can shift at 1500 rpm when boulevard cruising; or how about being in fourth gear at 30 mph (50 km/h). Torque - what a wonderful thing it is...
