Re: Pisgah Inn from Asheville

Alt route to BRP from I-40.

I used to live in Asheville, so I thought I'd suggest a slightly different
route to the Pisgah Inn for all those lucky enough to make it to the Rallye
(and I never thought I'd miss unemployment...).

Take exit 50 off I-40 to US25 South (I think it is Exit 50B, the one that
does NOT say Biltmore House). Take US25 South (AKA Hendersonville Rd) for
about 2.5 miles and the entrance to the Parkway is on the right (at the top
of a hill, below an overpass). There are a few gas stations along this
stretch if you need to fill up (very few (2?) gas stops actually on the
BRP). Also, there are 2 grocery stores here if you'd like to stick some
road snacks or a packed lunch in your bags for riding stops. There's gas
and convenience store type food at the Inn (another 15 miles), but they're
kinda expensive and the food choices are limited. Also, about a half mile
past the BRP entrance on US25, there's a few fast food places if you'd like
a quick burger before heading uphill. From this entrance to the Parkway
(~MP# 394), the Pisgah Inn is about 15 miles South.

This route backtracks slightly compared to Eric's route (I26 to Rt191), but
you really won't mind the extra 2 miles of Parkway. ;-)
