Cleaning chains

This list is pleasantly full of intelligent people. However, since the
subject of chain cleaning has come up...

It seems like an easy way to get the chain really clean, really quick - Put
the bike on its centerstand or a race lift while idling in first gear, soak
a rag in solvent and lightly grasp the moving chain with the rag.

The next thing to know is that you should have a rag dampened with clean
water nearby to wrap the severed ends of your fingers in as your riding
buddy dials 911.

I was the buddy.  DON'T DO IT!
