This was a common problem on the early ST's and to the best of my knowledge
was corrected on late 99's. We had a lot of discussion on this list about
it - as a matter of fact, it was Richard and Lisa White that discovered the
problem. We got ToA involved which lead to them removing the wire tie. I am
surprised that your dealer did not catch it - I thought there was a
bulletin put out on this.

This problem and fix is in the FAQ section (the "is there anything I need
to be aware of" section). If anyone has a 99 they would be wise to not only
cut the wire tie, but also check to make sure that there has been no
rubbing damage.

Glad you were able to get through it in one piece. How long did it take to
clean your shorts ? ;-)
