Re: Cooling Fan

While I'm riding my gauge sits at the low end of the scale just above the
'minimum' indicator line (if that's it is) most of the time. I only got the
bike in February and there's only been a few really warm days so far this
year, so I don't believe my cooling system has been taxed too much yet.
Most of the time there is no fan activity after I turn OFF the ignition, but
occasionally there is.

Thus far I've been assuming that for those times that the fans runs after
shutdown that the water temp must be just above some pre-determined
threshhold (and not enough to notice on the gauge) and thus I get the
cool-down cycle. I've never noticed that the fan stops when you turn the
key back on, but I'll bet mine acts just like yours (I'll try to remember to
check next time).

My suggestion is that maybe the ECU assumes that turning the key to the ON
position means that you'll be starting the motor momentarily and that
battery juice should be preserved for the starting motor. On the other
hand, I thought that power is cut to your headlights the moment you hit the
starter button (and for the same reason), so they could have handled the fan
the same way. Oh well, it just a thought . . . .
