Oil warning light

Hi all,

A little advice to soothe my frayed nerves please :-(

When I left work last night the oil pressure warning light came on
after 2-3 minutes' riding. I idled to a petrol station and checked the
oil level - fine. Switched the bike on and the light came on as part of
the self-test. Started her up and the light went out, but came on after
30 seconds or so :-( I limped the two miles or so to my girlfriend's
place and worked until 1.30am trying to get her race bike ready for the
weekend....

This morning the light didn't come on at all after the self-test.

My thought was that something was being sucked into an oilway when
the engine was running; maybe it's now lurking at the bottom of the sump
ready to strike again.

Diane's thought was that rainwater had got into the electrics (the
bike was sitting outside in heavy rain all day yesterday).

    Any ideas from the list?

    Thanks,

                Jim
