Front Tire Removal

Well I finally got the speedo housing removed but I am not happy with
what I found. I was carefull in prying the housing off with the screw
driver. Once I got it removed I saw that the tension spring used to hold
the seal in place is loose inside the bearing cavity. Has anyone
experienced this before. Any suggestions on how to put it back in, is it
critical? I also noticed that the part of the speedo housing where it
snaps onto the wheel is all burgered up. I know I didnt do it with the
screw driver. The plastic was all rough, it appears that it should have
been smooth with a ridge in the middle that holds it in. Mine just seems
like they were having problems putting it on and they put it on with
force. Is it normal to have to use a screw driver to pry it off the
wheel, or should it simply be removed with a slight tug? Anyone have
similar experiences?
