Could be simple aerodynamics. If the pipe the clubs were in was fairly
large in diameter then the airflow around it would be a back and forth
cyclic pattern, much like that you feel when riding behind tractor
trailers. It flows from one side around the back , then the other and
the effect increases with speed.
